Subject: [VGIS-LISTSERV] Termination of VT Geodetic Advisor Agreement

From Dan Martin:

To the Surveying and Geospatial Community of Vermont,

Regretfully, I must notify you that the Vermont Agency of Transportation, in a cost-saving measure, has chosen to terminate the Vermont Geodetic Advisor agreement, effective May 3, 2015.

Many of you are aware that the National Geodetic Survey has plans to transition from a State Advisor Program to a Regional Advisor Program by the end of FY16.  The early termination of the VT agreement means that I will begin to work in my new role as the Regional Geodetic Advisor for the Northeast Region.  At this time, the Northeast Region includes the states of ME, NH, VT, MA, CT, RI, NY, and NJ.

I am currently searching for a new office location, and will update everyone as soon as I find one.  In the meantime I can be reached using the contact information below.

So what does this mean for you?  As the State Advisor housed out of VTrans, I had access to all of VTrans’ internal geodetic information that was not available on the web.  I also provided direct support to users of the VT Enhanced CORS and Transmission Of Real-time corrections network (VECTOR).  Though I am still available to discuss, and advise on these items, I will not have direct access to those dusty old files, nor the servers, databases, and applications associated with the Vermont Geodetic Web or VECTOR.  Brad Herring at VTrans will be the primary contact person for these items.  Brad can be contacted at (802) 828-2952 (o), (802) 793-5847 (c), [log in to unmask].  I am obviously still available for all other questions relative to VT’s geodetic network, and geodetic issues in general, but VT geodetic activities will no longer be my  primary focus as I will be working on issues throughout the entire Northeast Region.

The Regional Concept is pretty new to NGS, and is still in its development stage.  I welcome any discussion or suggestions to help make the new Regional Advisor Program as successful for VT as the State Advisor Program has been.

Best Regards,

Dan
