Hi Joe,

We've developed a couple of web-based tools that summarize data by political jurisdictions and present the information in dynamic maps and charts. The tools and their underlying data are all hosted in NOAA's Digital Coast.

The Coastal-Change Analysis Program (C-CAP) Land Cover Atlas reports a variety of land cover and change metrics by county. This will soon be updated to also summarize by HUC-8 watersheds and will include the new 2010 land cover data. We're also going to release a county comparison tool so that land cover metrics can more easily be compared between and among counties.

We also steward the "Economics: National Ocean Watch" (ENOW) data and have developed a couple of tools that allow users to visualize the multi-sectoral data by various geographies. The Coastal County Snapshots tool provides basic flood risk, ocean-related economics, and wetlands information for a given county and generates a downloadable report. The ENOW Explorer is a more robust data extraction, visualization, and comparison tool that allows users to view the various ENOW metrics by county, state, or region.

As always, feel free to ping me with any questions.

Best,
Jamie

Good morning All,

I happened upon a series of maps done by the Huffington post this morning and wondered if anyone had done something similar for Maine specifically. These maps focus on various economic issues but here are many metrics available that could be mapped by various political jurisdictions or regions.

Have any of you ventured into creating simple maps showing geographic information for Maine counties, towns, or regions? If you had I would like to receive links to them so they could be shared or if the GeoLibrary Board approved we could create a web page to host it as a map of the month page.

Geographically yours,
