Good Morning All,
Gretchen Heldmann, former Board Chair had an opportunity to attend the Governor’s listening session in Bangor yesterday. Her testimony is attached and she had
an opportunity to speak with Commissioner Aho of the DEP who is leading this effort. Please note her comments below.
LiDAR data and other GIS data layers are very important components for mapping the effects of climate change and no other component of state government is better
suited to coordinating the data acquisition than the GeoLibrary. The final session will be held in Houlton on Wednesday, June 11 at DOT's Houlton location at 28 Darcie Drive from 2 PM – 4 PM and from 6 PM -8 PM the same evening.
If you cannot make the listening sessions you can still send comments to

Thank you for your support Gretchen great job!

attached! Again, biggest question from Patricia Aho was about how to coordinate all these different types of GIS things she has been hearing about - and I reiterated
over and over that when the Legislature created the GeoLibrary, that was part of their express purpose, to coordinate geospatial data in Maine. They got one bond, but are out of money. They tried a GeoPortal, but due to running out of funds, that effort stalled.
GeoPortal was to link to all sources but not duplicate/house those sets of data.

Good morning all,
Governor Paul R. LePage’s Environmental and Energy Resources Working Group is convening three listening sessions to solicit suggestions on specific actions that will assist the
State in identifying and adopting climate adaption practices or policies.
At the risk of being self-serving, I think it would be reasonable for the GIS community to suggest to the Governor that the State needs regular updating of its base level GIS data.
Accurate assessments of the effects of climate change for flooding require high-resolution topographic data and more accurate hydrography mapping to assist in predicting the potential effects of changing climate conditions.
Three listening sessions are being scheduled:
·
Portland
Wednesday, May 14
Rooms 214 and 215
Abromson Community Education Center,
University of Southern Maine
·
Bangor
Wednesday, May 28
Rangeley Hall,
Eastern Maine Community College
·
Houlton
Wednesday, June 11
MeDOT's Houlton Location
28 Darcie Drive.
Each listening session will provide two opportunities for people to offer their thoughts and ideas, from 2 PM – 4 PM and from 6 PM -8 PM the same evening.
