The Maine International Center for Digital Learning has partnered with MIT’s Education Arcade to bring high school math and science teachers a FREE three-part webinar series

“Using The Radix Endeavor, a Multiplayer Online Game to Support Secondary Math and Science Instruction”

Intended for high school level (grades 9-12) teachers of Science and Mathematics. We're looking for Biology/Ecology and Math teachers who will team or partner on this FREE opportunity and work together to learn how to integrate a virtual learning game into their curriculum.

Important!! Must have access to laptop device for both teacher and student implementation.  Radix Endeavor is currently not tablet accessible.

Part I: Games, Exploration, and Context Setting
Wednesday, March 26, 2014 3:30 – 4:30 PM
Multiplayer online games are widely popular and engaging but did you ever think of using them as an educational tool? In this session, MIT researchers discuss the value of using games in the classroom and illustrate the ways in which some of these games are already being used. Using examples from the Radix Endeavor, a multiplayer online game developed by MIT, the presenters will discuss how role-playing and immersive virtual environments can serve as a backdrop against which teachers can discuss difficult concepts or provide a sandbox in which students can test and practice their understanding of these concepts.

Part II: Formal and Informal Assessment in the Game Environment
Wednesday, April 9, 2014 3:30 – 4:30 PM
Using examples from The Radix Endeavor, MIT researchers will discuss how online games can be used as formative assessment to gauge student understanding. The team will demonstrate the teacher dashboard and reporting mechanisms that allow teachers to view and monitor student progress and identify gaps in understanding. The team will also review the research objectives of the current research and respond to participant questions about participation in pilot.

Part III: Selecting and Aligning Game Content with Classroom Instruction
Wednesday, April 30, 2014 3:30 – 4:30 PM
In preparation for implementing The Radix Endeavor in the classroom, MIT researchers will share sample implementation plans taking into consideration alignment to specific learning standards, adherence to pacing guides and testing requirements while allowing significant time for participant questions and review of implementation challenges and opportunities.

The Radix team will also be attending the STEM Summit, March 28.  Meet them in person in the Exhibit area.
