URock Hours Thanksgiving Week

URock’s hours will adjust over the Thanksgiving holiday. Wednesday, Nov 27, the office will be open from 9AM – 1:00PM with limited staffing; there will be no classes. URock will be completely closed Thursday, Nov 28 and Friday, Nov 29. Enjoy your holiday!

Expressions Night and Pie Eating! Friday, December 6

Polish up that monologue, dance routine or poem, and favorite pie recipe. Expressions Night (co-sponsored by the Honors Program and URock SA) will be held Friday, December 6 starting at 5:30PM. It’s also a PIE POTLUCK! Yum! This is a great time to share whatever you wish in full support of the URock community!  Sign up to perform through the URock front office or by contacting Honors Rep, Richard Fortuna.

APA Citation Skills Workshop – Learn to Do It Right!

University librarian, Shiva Durabandi, will offer a workshop on how to properly use APA citations in your academic work. The workshop will be presented over videoconferencing on Wednesday, 12/4, from 9-11 AM. Pre-registration at the URock front office is encouraged but not necessary.

Spring Registration is NOW!

Spring semester registration is open for all UMS campuses. All URock course and registration information is available online. If you are a returning student, use self-service in Maine Street with no payment due. New students may also register with no payment due with assistance from URock staff. Schedule an advising appointment asap through the URock front office and get your schedule planned before the holidays.

Justice Studies Info and Advising

UMA Justice Studies instructor and advisor, Mary Louis Davitt, will be at UROCK on Thursday, December 5 from 2:30-4:30 pm to meet with students interested in learning the secrets to obtaining the Justice Studies degree in record time. There are limited appointments available, so please call 596-6906 to sign up today!

DHHS Employent Opportunities Presentation at UROCK, December 5

Hope Tormey of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Office of Child and Family Services will be at UROCK on Thursday, December 5 from 12-2 pm to give a presentation on employment opportunities available at DHHS Office of Child and Family Services. They are currently recruiting caseworkers. If you are interested, contact the UROCK office to sign up for this info session.

URock Connects with Allied Health Programs from UMFK

Even though UMFK seems many miles away, its courses and degree programs are available to URock students through distance education technologies. Join us for a UMFK program information session with UMFK faculty on December 12 from 4:00 -5:00 pm to find out more about programs in Allied Health, Health Info Technology, the RN-to-BSN, Healthcare Administration, and a Certificate in Health Care Management.

MacBeth Rescheduled at the Strand

The National Theater of London’s HD broadcast of MACBETH has been rescheduled for TUESDAY, December 17th (2pm OR 7pm) at The Strand in Rockland! Each URock student is entitled to one free ticket. Sign up at the UROCK office!  (Sponsored by the UROCK Student Association.)

 Get Ready for Storm Cancellations

As winter approaches, it is important to know how to get the latest info about any storm cancellations or delays. URock posts messages instantly on its webpage. In addition, you may find information on TV channels 6, 8 and 13 or on the URock office message machine.

Is Your Contact Information Up to Date?

Please check Maine Street to be sure your home phone and/or cell phone numbers are up to date. You can edit this information yourself! If you have a cancelled class due to faculty illness or emergency, we will try to contact you. If your phone number is incorrect, you will not get the message.

Tutoring Assistance for Math

UMA has a Math Tutoring Hotline (877-862-1234 ext 3082) available every Tuesday and Thursday from 11AM to 4PM. You and the math tutor may share a screen remotely, working through problems online as you work together on math concepts. If you are finding it difficult to schedule with a local tutor, call the hotline!

Drop-In Technology Support

There is Tech Support help onsite in the computer lab every Tuesday from 2:30 – 3:30PM with student, Dan Osier. No question is too big or too small. Try to stump Dan! Drop-ins welcome!

Proctored Test Times

If you need to take an exam other than during its regular class time, you will need to schedule your test through the URock front office. Our testing hours through the fall will be Tuesdays 8:00 – 11:00AM and Fridays, 4:00 – 7:00PM. A photo ID is required and, in many cases, instructor permission.
