The Maine Office of GIS and the Maine GeoLibrary Board are announcing that as of January 1, 2014, the Maine GeoPortal (http://geolibportal.usm.maine.edu) will no longer be available. The need for a GeoLibrary-dedicated metadata portal has diminished as publicly available metadata cataloging tools are now freely available. Additionally, the Board and USM can no longer host the portal which requires a large investment to update the hardware and software. If you have metadata hosted on the GeoLibrary Portal, we suggest you utilize the federal data.gov website at http://catalog.data.gov/dataset instead, migrating your metadata before Jan 1 2014. The Maine Office of GIS Data Catalog will migrate its metadata collection off the GeoPortal sometime in December. This will not impact use of the catalog, it will simply change where metadata are displayed. Feel free to contact me with any questions. =============================== Michael Smith MS GISP State GIS Manager, Maine Office of GIS State of Maine, Office of Information Technology michael.smith _at_ maine.gov 207-215-5530 Board Member, Maine GeoLibrary Education Chair, Maine GIS Users Group State Rep, National States Geographic Information Council [cid:image001.jpg@01CED645.5AF75850] State House Station 145 51 Commerce Drive Augusta, ME 04333-0145 69o 47' 58.9"W 44o 21' 54.8"N ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This list Maine GeoNews (GEOLIBRARY-L) is an unmoderated discussion list for all Maine GIS Users.
