HI folks,

A colleagueI recently had a need to check if a property was in a flood plain, and actually the easiest way he could find to do that was to use the TNM Viewer.

FEMA has updated flood maps for much of the country, but they're kind of difficult to use or access online.  The FEMA map service is listed in TNM Viewer under "Natural Hazards" and "FEMA Flood Hazards" at the bottom left of the viewer.

So bring up that pane in the table of contents, activate the hazards theme, and type the address of interest into the search box at the top of the viewer.  Hit 'Zoom to' on the selection, and you'll zoom in close enough to show the flood maps.  You may need to turn on the flood layers you want to see and/or zoom in or out a bit depending on where you are.

It's also handy to be able to show the imagery and set the flood layer to about 50% transparency - then you can view if the structure is in the flood zone or just the property.

Give it a shot, amaze your friends and stakeholders
