Build community

Break out your Hawaiian shirts!

On Thursday, 2/14, Shannon Landry, an intern for Big Brothers and Big Sisters will be available in the lobby from 10 am to 2:30 pm to recruit captains for bowling teams. Shannon notes, “Step up, don’t lei down, join me and other volunteers and set up a bowling team for the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Bath/Brunswick annual Bowl for Kids Sake Hawaiian-themed extravaganza on 3/30. Bowl for Kids Sake is the biggest BBBS fundraiser of the year. Break out those grass skirts or Hawaiian shirts and bring friends to bowl as well as to raise money for a great cause. Aloha!”

File or renew your 2013-14 FAFSA now! For assistance, attend an MEOC workshop or a Welcome Back College workshop. Please file before 2/15 to meet the priority deadline! Don’t wait until you file a tax return! Estimate the numbers and file now. Once you have filed your tax return, correct any FAFSA data, as needed.

Break out!

University College at Bath/Brunswick will be closed on Monday, 2/18 in observance of the Presidents Day holiday. The center will be open from 8 am to 4 pm during the remainder of the winter break week (2/19-2/23).

Apply to graduate school

Learn the ins and outs of navigating the graduate school application process by attending the Applying to Graduating School Workshop on Monday, 2/25, from 9-10:30 am. To register, please email Lisa Whitney.

Discover your type

Learn about your personality type by attending a three-week Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) Workshop, on Wednesdays, 2/27, 3/6 and 3/13, from 6 to 7:30 pm. The MBTI Workshop is a series of three 90-minute sessions designed to help an individual learn more about personality and the role of personality in the career planning process. Space is limited. Get free tax prep!

If you earned under $51,000 last year, you can find out if you qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit and get your taxes prepared for free through the Midcoast Creating Assets, Savings & Hope (CA$H) Coalition. Call 319-1390 to make an appointment. Tax prep locations include UC Bath/Brunswick.

Apply for scholarships

The UMA General Scholarships application deadline is 3/18. The AAUW Scholarship and Paul Hanley Memorial Scholarship application deadline is 3/29. Generate other scholarship leads by using the FAME scholarship search.

Read Aloud

Celebrate Dr. Suess’ birthday on 3/1 by participating in the Community Read Aloud. This is a wonderful opportunity to volunteer as a reader in a local elementary classroom, pre-school or childcare center. Please register immediately. FMI: 443-9752 or [log in to unmask].
