I tried introducing Edmodo to many of my classes/teachers. It was interesting but didn't catch fire. I think one teacher actually followed through and is still experimenting. I'm going try Schoology next. It looks a little more user friendly.

We're using Google Apps for Ed. for 2-5. All the kids have email and they u=
se this for word processing, presentation, sharing. A couple of the teacher=
s have used the drawing module for idea mapping. It's been a little difficu=
lt for grade 2 but 3-5 are pretty comfortable with it.

Sarah,

You may want to check in with Deb White (in Orono) and Cherrie Macinnis (in
Brewer) who have used Twitter and Skype within their classrooms.

Erich,

I had looked at Schoology and was very impressed but it didn't pass muster
with my elementary principal in going forward as a district to gain the
power of vertical integration (among the teachers).  Dan Gotlieb (
[log in to unmask]) is a great resource to work with in getting more
information.

Sarah,

I have begun using Edmodo in my 9th grade science and 9-12 computer apps
students.  I plan to expand that use this semester.  Several teachers at
Hampden Academy are using Edmodo.  I also require students in my computer
apps course to use Twitter to connect with others and learn more about
their chosen research topics.

As an integrator I see great potential in using social media as an
additional tool to assist teaching and learning.  Currently other tools
(Google Apps, iPad use in the classroom, and iTunesU) and standards-based
education have understandably become priorities at my school.  In the
meantime, I need to get experience to prepare for the time when other
social and collaborative tools will fit into our professional development
plan.

To the rest of the listserv followers, what are some of the targeted tools
to be included in your PD plan?

Shawn
