Job Description: The Nature Conservancy is seeking a Coastal GIS Analyst to be part of the Rhode Island Ocean and Coasts Conservation Program. She/he will provide technical assistance to Rhode Island’s shellfish restoration and protection initiatives. Primary function will be to compile and evaluate existing coastal spatial data, develop shellfish suitability models, and produce maps. This is a full-time, grant funded position for 3 months with possibility of extending to 6 months contingent upon grant funding and performance.

 

Essential Functions:

·         Produce spatial data layers and/or map products.

·         Develop and maintain GIS library and/or database products library.

·         Create models using ESRI ArcGIS tools (i.e., ModelBuilder) for the conversion, loading and analysis of spatial datasets, including CAD/GIS sources.

·         Develop tools, models and scripts to process, analyze and load large (spatial) datasets.

·         Work with Coastal Ecologist to develop project milestones, schedules, and budgets and manages all technical development activities to meet those obligations.

·         Meet regularly with the Coastal Ecologist to ensure close coordination on all project tasks.

 

Basic Qualifications:

·         BA/BS or Associates degree in related field and 1 year related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

·         Experience maintaining and populating databases and manual files.

·         Experience producing maps and/or other graphic products and reports.

·         Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and using the Internet.

·         Experience with ESRI software (ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and ModelBuilder).

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·         BA/BS or Associates degree in related field and 1-2 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.    

·         Performing administrative duties emphasizing detail-oriented and numerical tasks including data entry

·         Database and computer spatial or tabular based management skills including managing, maintaining and populating databases. 

·         Building, populating and producing reports from databases.

·         Managing and prioritizing tasks from multiple sources.

·         Working knowledge of common software applications (e.g.; Word, Access, Excel, Web browsers)

·         Experience with or knowledge of Python scripting in ArcGIS is desirable.”

·         Communicating clearly via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
