GIS System Engineer Position Description

PenBay Solutions is a software solutions and GIS company using a combination of technology and business intelligence to deliver our clients viable solutions to their toughest facility challenges. As a world leader in bringing GIS inside the building, we help them make better informed decisions about their facility operations, maintenance, security and investments.
We are looking for a creative GIS Systems Engineer to join our team deploying, managing, and supporting rich internet and mobile applications built on ESRI technologies. The position will involve significant interaction within a geographically distributed team with varying levels of direction, so strong oral and written communication skills are a must.
You'll be implementing and supporting complex enterprise GIS environments, so this position requires at least 5 years of experience implementing GIS systems in a team environment.  Your responsibilities would include:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

*         Performing installation and configuration of modern operating systems and RDBMS databases such as SQL Server and Oracle and build enterprise geodatabases on those platforms.

*         Performing installation and configuration of web servers such as IIS and Apache as well as obtaining, installing and configuring security certificates and web.config settings.

*         Performing installation and configuration of ArcGIS server and desktop software and extensions.

*         Performing installation and configuration of COTS web applications and configure them to utilize GIS web services such as map/feature services and geoprocessing services.

*         Developing architectural design and specification of ArcGIS enterprise system environments (e..g, hardware, software, network) a plus.

*         Assisting test engineers in the development of software test plans.

*         Performing any necessary on-site support activities including implementation, user acceptance testing, and technical knowledge transfer.

*         Monitoring systems for optimum performance and capacity constraints including tuning, compression, and replication of geodatabases.

*         Designing and developing ETL processes and stored procedures for data migration.

*         Developing tools, models and scripts to process, analyze and load large (spatial) datasets.

*         Creating models using ESRI ArcGIS tools (i.e.: ModelBuilder) for the conversion, loading and analysis of spatial datasets, including CAD/GIS sources.

*         Reviewing, interpreting and constructing complex SQL, PL/SQL, stored procedures, triggers and other database elements.

*         Working with Project Managers to develop project milestones, schedules, and budgets and manages all technical development activities to meet those obligations.

*         Meeting regularly with Project Managers to ensure close coordination on all project tasks.

*         Identifying risks, develop and recommend risk response strategies, and implementing risk responses as approved by the Project Manager.




QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

*         A Bachelors degree in computer science, MIS, or a related field.

*         5 years experience administering Esri ArcGIS Server, SDE, ArcGIS Desktop  and associated relational database systems.

*         System administration capabilities in Windows 2008 R2 a must; Linux system administration capabilities a plus.

*         Proven experience with Oracle 11g and SQL Server 2008 R2.

*         Experience with ESRI ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server and ArcSDE technologies. Version 10.0+ experience is a must.

*         Experience with modern web server software such as IIS, Apache, and associated capabilities such as server certificates, LDAP integration, and web.config files.

*         Python and ArcGIS ModelBuilder experience a must.  Experience with other ETL and related conversion tools (e.g. FME) as plus.

*         Spatial database design and editing capabilities a must: Creating views and procedures to integrate spatial and non-spatial data, creating map services, generating feature data from provided sensor data and imagery, spatial data processing.

*         The ability to create clear technical documentation.

*         Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

*         US citizenship required.

*         Must be willing to undergo and pass a government security clearance background check.
