WMS Updates:

MEGIS has published three new web mapping services from older collections out this past week.  They are available from our data catalog for ArcGIS and Google Earth, or through direct WMS request using other software, www.maine.gov/megis.  They include:

Houlton 2004 – a 6-inch color municipal orthoimagery collection for the town of Houlton, collected May 8, 2004.  Suitable for 1” = 200’ mapping.

Bangor-area DOQQs 1991 – a 1991/1992 black-and-white orthoimagery collection for 1800 square miles centered around Bangor, from the USDA NAPP program.  Accuracy +/- 6m and pixel resolution 1m.   Very useful for establishing a historic baseline in this area.

Penobscot Bay Low Tide 1982-1983 – a very early black-and-white orthoimagery collection for Penobscot Bay, about 950 square miles, captured at low tide to delineate MLT.  Pixel resolution is 1.2m and accuracy is probably in the range of +/- 6m along the coastline and not so good inland.  Also very useful for establishing a historic baseline in this area.

MEGIS staffing changes:

Many of you have worked with David Kirouac, Senior Programmer/Analyst, over the years.  David will be leaving state service in mid-June (exact date not set, but likely June 18-20) and moving to sunny Florida.  No more snow shovels for Dave!  We wish him well and hope he doesn’t get too sun-burned.  This is also a good reminder that if you need to contact MEGIS, rather than contacting somebody directly (who may be on vacation or have moved to Florida), please use our state IT help desk to get to us.  Phone# 207-624-7700 or email [log in to unmask].

I will be taking a lengthy vacation and not returning until July 1.  Another good reason to send help requests to the above contacts so they don’t sit in my inbox for 5 weeks.
