*Owls Head Transportation Museum Seeks Summer Interns – Visit Them March
6th!*

Join the staff of the* Owls Head Transportation Museum<http://www.ohtm.org/>
*for an exciting summer internship position. Four URock interns needed for
such tasks as online promotion, media distribution, special event and
exhibition set-ups, education programming, front office support, business
marketing, and more. Find out more at a free Open House event on *Tuesday,
March 6th at 5:00PM at the museum*. Polish your resume and attend the open
house! These internships are available for both college credit and a
stipend. Those motivated to gain leadership skills from a highly productive
management team should email a cover letter and resume to [log in to unmask] by
April 1.

*Distance Ed Library Workshop in C-Lab March 6*

On Tuesday, March 6th from 2:30 – 3:30PM, Lisa McDaniels, Distance
Education Librarian will offer a workshop in the URock computer lab
demonstrating research tools using the distance education library services.
Do you know that you have full access to the collections of all the
university campuses, the Maine State Library and public libraries in Maine
without leaving Rockland? And, better yet, your library books are shipped
right to URock free of charge.

This may be the most valuable hour you spend in a long time! Sign up at the
URock front desk is encouraged but not necessary.

*Lunch with Asst Prof. Tom Giordano and Dean Brenda McAleer March 13*

Assistant Professor of Accounting, Tom Giordano, and Dean Brenda McAleer
will visit URock on Tuesday, March 13, to meet and talk with students. Join
us at noon for an informal chat about degree requirements, internships and
career opportunities. Even if you are not a business major, but are looking
at a certificate in accounting, or a minor in business, you have a lot to
gain from meeting these two outstanding educators. Please RSVP to the front
office as lunch will be served.

*New Ventures Programming Coming to URock*

Women, Work and Community will offer its renowned business planning course
at URock Wed, March 28th through June 13 from 9:30AM – 3:00PM. The 12 week,
one-day per week course will cover: identifying the customer, competition,
marketing, record keeping, taxes, financing, and the legal considerations
of starting and running a small business. At the end of the course you will
have completed a business plan. There is no fee for the course. Class size
is limited to 15. An application, attendance at the orientation (March 21
at 9:30) and an interview are required. This program carries UMA college

*Resources for Teacher Preparation*

Cynthia Dean <[log in to unmask]>, Assistant Professor of Education at
UMA, recently visited URock to share valuable info about the three paths to
teacher certification now available at URock: elementary, secondary and
special education. More info can be found on UMA’s

We also suggest you self-enroll in her Blackboard site for the latest tips
on student teaching, Praxis exams and Dept of Ed. regulations. Here’s the
process: *Log into Blackboard, click the Community tab (between Courses and
Libraries on the top of the screen), click on the UMA Organizations folder,
find the site (UMA Education Pathways), then select Enroll from the
pull-down menu in the Organization ID column. Enter the access code** **(**
umaed**), then Submit. *

*Withdrawal Alert!*

The last date to withdraw from a UMA course and still receive a grade of
‘W’ is March 19th. A grade of ‘W’ does not compute into your GPA*. *

*URock Honors Program*

The URock Honors Program held a successful Chili Cookoff on Friday, Feb
17th. Congratulations to the winners as follows: Birch Newbert for “Best
Traditional Chili; Erica Jacobs for “Best Non-Traditional Chili”; and,
Lottie Wincapaw for the “People’s Choice”. Watch the front counter for a
chance to win a hand-made Easter basket with “critters” created by Lottie
Wincapaw. Proceeds will benefit the URock Scholarship Fund. The next
*EXPRESSIONS
NIGHT* is scheduled for Friday, March 23. For more info on the URock Honors
