*Info Session on Paths to Teacher Certification Wed, Feb 15*

On Wed, February 15th at noon, Cindy Dean, Coordinator of Teacher
Certification at UMA, will discuss all of the various pathways to teacher
certification that are currently available without leaving University
College at Rockland. Cooperative agreements between UMA and UMPI and UMM
allow students to get fully certified to teach in elementary education,
special education and secondary education right here! And, that includes
the full semester of student teaching. If this is a career path of interest
to you, please come to this important info session. Sign up at the URock
front desk is encouraged but not necessary.

*Chili Cook Off Friday, February 17 – Chefs and Eaters Wanted!*

The URock Honors Program will host a Chili Cook Off event at URock on
Friday, February 17th starting at 5:00PM. Bring your favorite chili in a
crock pot (and sour cream or cheese for topping, if needed). Enter to win
as URock’s best chili chef! There are sign-up sheets at the front office or
on the bulletin board in the student lounge. Chili will be piping hot and
ready to share at 5:00PM. Bread and drinks provided by the Honors Program.
Families welcome. A minimum donation is encouraged.* Enter to win or come
to eat! *

*Learn About Distance Ed Library Services March 6*

On Tuesday, March 6th from 2:30 – 3:30PM, Lisa McDaniels, Distance
Education Librarian will offer a workshop in the URock computer lab
demonstrating research tools using the distance education library services.
Do you know that you have full access to the collections of all the
university campuses, the Maine State Library and public libraries in Maine
without leaving Rockland? And, better yet, your library books are shipped
right to URock free of charge.

This may be the most valuable hour you spend in a long time! Sign up at the
URock front desk is encouraged but not necessary.

*Asst Prof. Tom Giordano and Dean Brenda McAleer to Visit URock March 13*

Assistant Professor of Accounting, Tom Giordano, and Dean Brenda McAleer
will visit URock on Tuesday, March 13, to meet and talk with students in
the UMA business program. Join us at noon for an informal chat about degree
requirements, internships and career opportunities. Even if you are not a
business major, but are looking at a certificate in accounting, or a minor
in business, you have a lot to gain from meeting these two outstanding
educators. Please RSVP to the front office as lunch will be served.

*Open House for URock Students at Owls Head Transportation Museum March 6*

Students are invited to check out the Owls Head Transportation Museum as a
fun place for a possible *summer job or internship*. The Museum is hosting
a free Open House to encourage students to see its collections, pick up
information about job opportunities, and then stay for a concert by the
UMaine Singers at 7:00PM, free of charge. For more info on the museum,

*Learn More About Bath Salts Friday, Feb 10*

On Friday, February 10th from 4:00 – 6:45PM there will be a special
presentation by Jonathan Richards, Special Agent, Maine Drug Enforcement
Administration on bath salts, a dangerous new drug that has reached
epidemic proportions in Maine. Anyone interested is welcome.

Applications for the

being accepted between Feb 1 and Feb 15th. For more information stop

the Maine Career Center on the second floor.

*Last Call Before Tossing Fall Term Papers and Projects*

Many faculty have returned students papers and projects to the front
office. Please claim your work by Friday, February 17th to avoid *
destruction*.

*Women’s Leadership Conference This Summer*

This highly acclaimed residential training program provides public
leadership education for college women. It will be held on the Univ of
Maine at Orono campus from June 1 to June 6 and is designed to educate,
empower and encourage participants to take on leadership roles. The
application deadline is March 16th. Click

*Proctored Testing at URock*

If you need to schedule a proctored test at URock, please note that our
scheduled times are Tuesday mornings at 8:00AM or Friday evenings at
4:00PM. You will need to call the URock office to sign up so we are sure to
have your test materials ready for you. You will need a photo ID when you
take the test.

*Apply Now for 2012- 2013 Financial Aid*

Reapply now for financial aid for Summer & Fall 2012 and Spring 2013. We
advise that you prepare your 2011 federal income taxes and then file your
FAFSA <http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/> for the 2012-2013 academic year just as
early as you can. The earlier you apply, the more money you may be awarded!

If bad weather forces us to cancel classes, you will find the most

the URock office for an updated recorded message. Generally, classes are
canceled two hours before start times.

The Board of the URock Student

always looking for new members to help with the planning and

of activities and events to build the URock community. This is a great way
