*“You and Your Money” – Lunch Hour Workshop Series – This Wednesday!*

We all need help managing our personal finances, right? Linda Buckmaster of
Women, Work and Community will host a free workshop on October 12th during
the noon hour. Linda will present *“Reduce Your Debt and Be Happy”*, about
basic strategies for reducing your debt over time. Attend this free session
for great advice!

*Pop!Tech at URock Oct 20 & 21!*

URock will dedicate classroom #405 on Thursday and Friday, October 20 and 21
for live videostreaming of the presentations from Pop!Tech. This year’s
theme is “The World Rebalancing” <http://poptech.org/world_rebalancing>. As
always, Pop!Tech will bring together eminent and emerging leaders,
innovators and change agents in business, science, technology, social
innovation, entrepreneurship, education and the arts for a conversation on
these themes like no other!  Stop in anytime throughout those days and
enjoy these amazing presentations along with some drinks and popcorn from
the URock SA.

*Session on Information & Library Services Program – October 27th*

Jodi Williams, full-time UMA faculty member in the AS and BS in Information
and Library Services <http://www.uma.edu/lisfaqs.html>, will be at URock on
Thursday, October 27th at

provide an overview of the program, jobs and the career outlook for
this
field. Even if you have never thought of this career field (with great
potential) before, come and learn more about it. You might be surprised.

*Mobile Veterans’ Van Rolling Into URock October 26th*

Maine’s Mobile Vet Van will visit URock’s Rte #1 parking lot on Wednesday,
October 26 from 10AM to 1PM. Meet UMA veterans’ coordinator Amy Line as well
as staff of the mobile van who are skilled at answering all sorts of veteran
questions.

including campus calendars, links to the Distance Learning Class Search and
ways to put courses on your wish list. Maine Street encourages a lot of
self-service so try some of these functions. If there is a course you really
want, you can get a head start by self-registering. Advising appointments

Meehan<[log in to unmask]>are available by calling the URock
front office at 596-6906.

*FAMEMAINE is a Good Financial Aid Resource*

Looking for new information on scholarships and other financial aid? Be sure
to check the FAME webite <http://www.famemaine.com>. It has lots of good
leads.

*Special Topics Course in DRA for Spring 2012*

Faculty member, Jonathan Potter, has developed a new 300-level drama course
for URock in the spring term. “Introduction to Traditional Comedy” will be
taught on Monday nights at URock at 7:00PM. For those who have enjoyed Mr.
Potter’s courses, “Introduction to Drama”, “Play Production” and “Creative
Writing”, this new course will introduce students to the history, theory and
practice of commedia dell’ arte, characterized by masked “types”, music,
dance, witty dialogue, and all kinds of chicanery. This class promises us
great performances in the spring!

*Math and Science Tutoring Help!*

There is free tutoring available in math and science (biology and A & P).
It’s best to jump on any problems early in the semester. Please contact the
front office for instructions on getting the process started.

*Make-Up Testing Policies*

Make-up exams are administered at URock *only* on Tuesday mornings at 8:00AM
and Fridays at 4:00PM. You must call the URock office to schedule your test
and you must bring a photo ID.

*Registration and Degree Progress Tutorials*

UMA’s Advising Center has created some helpful tutorials on distance
registration in Maine Street
<http://www.uma.edu/distanceregistration.html>and running a degree
progress report<http://www.uma.edu/assets/docs/studentsupport/ewaydegree.pdf>in
Maine Street. Try them out!

*Save the Date! Expressions Night Coming!*

The date for URock’s next Expressions Night is set for Friday, November
18th. Frank Pavalkis will be pulling this event together on behalf of

*URock Student Association – Learn All About It!*

The Board of the URock Student

always looking for new members to help with the planning and

of activities and events to build the URock community. This is a great way

*Prose, Poetry, Art Work, Photography – Time to Submit to the UMA Scholar!*

You are invited to submit papers or artwork for publication in the UMA
Scholar. Works do not have to conform to a theme and they do not have to be
recent works. Submission deadline is December 31, 2011. Check URock’s
bulletin boards for “golden” submission guidelines or email Amy

managing editor. The UMA Scholar is sponsored by UMA’s Honors Program.
