*Newsletter – September 7*

*Farewell Paula!*

Paula Moody’s last day of work at URock is Friday, September 9th. Please
wish her well at her new job at the Rockport Town Office. We will certainly
miss her!

*Add-Drop Continues Through Monday, September 12*

You may drop some or all UMA classes through Monday, September 12th and
receive a 100% refund.  After that there will be increasing financial and
academic penalties so please pay attention! Check add-drop
dates<http://learn.maine.edu/rockland/files/2011/08/add-drop-period-for-Universities.pdf>before
making a schedule change so you make an informed decision.

*Tutoring Help!*

There is free tutoring available in math and science. It’s best to jump on
any problems early in the semester. Please contact the front office for
instructions on getting the process started.

*What is Delayed Viewing?*

Most ITV courses allow something called “delayed viewing”. This means the
faculty member does not require your attendance at the time of the live
broadcast. Rather, you can log in to your Blackboard site, click on the
course link, then click on Class Capture and view the broadcast anytime from
anywhere. Of course, you are always welcome to attend when the live
broadcast happens. Click
here<http://learn.maine.edu/files/2011/08/Fall2011DVTable3.pdf>to see
all faculty policies for ITV fall courses, including when you must
take your exams and quizzes.

*Claim Your Course Work from Spring and Summer Semesters!*

We have a good deal of returned student course work from spring and summer
semesters. Please pick up your work at the front office or it will be
discarded on September 23rd.

*Student Parking*

Please enter and exit URock from Fales Street, the little side street just
north of our building. Student parking is behind the Breakwater Building,
preferably in the gravel! This separates our chaos from the other tenants at
Breakwater.

*Join the URock Student Association*

The Board of the URock Student
Association<http://learn.maine.edu/rockland/about-us/student-association/>is
always looking for new members to help with the planning and
sponsoring
of activities and events to build the URock community. This is a great way
to make new friends and offer your leadership skills. Check out the minutes
of their last meeting
<http://learn.maine.edu/rockland/files/2011/08/Meeting-Minutes-SA-2001-revise.pdf>and
stop by at their next meeting the second week in September.

*Use Hand Sanitizer!*

Studies show that those who use hand sanitizer have less frequent colds and
flu. Each classroom and study area at URock is equipped with anti-bacterial
gels. Make use of them!

*You and Your Money – Lunch Hour Workshop Series*

We all need help managing our personal finances, right? Linda Buckmaster of
Women, Work and Community will host two free workshops in October during the
noon hour. On Wednesday, October 5 from 12:00 noon to 1:00PM, Linda will

Wednesday, October 12, from 12:00 noon to 1:00PM Linda will present *“Reduce
Your Debt and Be Happy”*, about basic strategies for reducing your debt over
time. Attend one or both of these for great advice!

MHHS Program, will run a workshop from noon to 1:00PM about requirements,
finding a placement and lots more good advice to help you craft a successful

With new colors, new furniture, a dedicated computer with wireless keyboard
and Skype, URock’s room #409 has lots of new uses. It’s a great space for
study groups, tutoring, Skyping with other students across the state, or
preparing a Powerpoint in large scale format. The room may be reserved using
Google calendar or by reserving through the front office.

*UMA Announces Convocation – Check for Car Pooling!*

This year’s keynote speaker at UMA’s Convocation event will be Winona
LaDuke, an internationally renowned activist working on sustainable
development and environmental justice. Ms. LaDuke is featured in the book,

Committee as the work to be integrated into UMA’s curriculum this year.

– 4:00pm. Check URock’s bulletin board for help with car pooling!

*NO Smoking Within 100 Feet of Breakwater*

Please adhere to the policy of no smoking within 100 feet of the entrances
to the Breakwater Building. Take advantage of the two new picnic tables on
the waterfront and move away from the building when smoking. Thanks for your
cooperation.

*Be Wise & Lock Your Car*

Although URock and its surrounding areas are safe environments, there is an
increase of reported property thefts in the mid-coast. Therefore, we advise
that you lock your cars in the parking lot for added safety.
