Final Summer Make-Up Test Date

There will be a scheduled make-up session for summer tests on Tuesday, August 23 at 8:00AM. This will be the final make up scheduled for summer tests. Please call the office to schedule your tests as needed.

Order Your Textbooks Delivered to URock

Order through the UMA bookstore by Friday, August 19 and choose Rockland as your pick-up location. Your books will be delivered here on August 25. This saves $$$ in shipping costs!

Special Hours Week of August 22

During the week of break between summer and fall terms, URock’s hours will be 8:00AM – 5:30PM Mon through Thursday and 8:00 – 4:00PM on Friday.

New Fall Course – Secondary Methods of Teaching through UMM

University of Maine at Machias has added a new online course to the fall term. EDU 321, Secondary Methods of Teaching, is a required course for all those looking to get certification to teach at the secondary level. The course will run from November 28 through January 13.

You and Your Money – Lunch Hour Workshop Series

We all need help managing our personal finances, right? Linda Buckmaster of Women, Work and Community will host two free workshops in October during the noon hour. On Wednesday, October 5 from 12:00 noon to 1:00PM, Linda will present, “How Much Should I Borrow”, a discussion about student loans. On Wednesday, October 12, from 12:00 noon to 1:00PM Linda will present “Reduce Your Debt and Be Happy”, about basic strategies for reducing your debt over time. Attend one or both of these for great advice!

Prepare for Your Internship for MHHS for Spring Term

All associate and baccalaureate students in MHHS have a “practicum” or “internship” experience required in the program. On Wednesday, September 28th from noon to 1:00PM, Diane Carrick, Internship Coordinator for UMA’s MHHS Program, will run a workshop from noon to 1:00PM about requirements, finding a placement and lots more good advice to help you craft a successful experience. This is an informal and informative session. Please register with the URock front desk.

Fall Registration Now Needs Payment

You may still sign up for fall classes but now payment or proof of financial aid is due at the time of registration.

Steps to Successful Online Learning

If you are taking your first online class this fall, please go to our new website page for great tips and strategies to be successful. These helpful hints will make the semester start up much smoother.

Academic Advising

It is a busy time of year and URock is looking at more growth! If you cannot make an advising appointment that you have scheduled please call the office. It may be possible to switch the appointment to a phone appointment and get your questions answered, rather than to reschedule. There are many tricks to being successful academically. Check this link for more great tips and hints and answers to lots of basic questions.

Lots of Options in URock’s Room #409

With new colors, new furniture, a dedicated computer with wireless keyboard and Skype, URock’s room #409 has lots of new uses. It’s a great space for study groups, tutoring, Skyping with other students across the state, or preparing a Powerpoint in large scale format. The room may be reserved using Google calendar.

UMA Announces Convocation Theme

This year’s keynote speaker at UMA’s Convocation event will be Wonona Duke, an internationally renowned activist working on sustainable development and environmental justice. Ms. LaDuke is featured in the book, “Talking About a Revolution”. This book has been chosen by the Colloquium Committee as the work to be integrated into UMA’s curriculum this year. Convocation will be held on the UMA campus on Friday, September 23 from 2:30 – 4:00pm.

NO Smoking Within 100 Feet

Please adhere to the policy of no smoking within 100 feet of the entrances to the Breakwater Building. Take advantage of the two new picnic tables on the waterfront and move away from the building when smoking. Thanks for your cooperation.

Be Wise & Lock Your Car

Although URock and its surrounding areas are safe environments, there is an increase of reported property thefts in the mid-coast. Therefore, we advise that you lock your cars in the parking lot for added safety.

WWC Programming: Introduction to Self Employment

On Thursday, August 18th from 10AM – 12 noon, Women, Work & Community will host an introductory workshop for those deciding whether self-employment is the right choice. The class covers the pros and cons of owning your own business, the major elements of a business plan, and the many resources available to help you succeed. The workshop is free and will be held on the 2nd floor at the Career Center. Call WWC at 596-2616 to register.

Bulletin Board for Internships and Job Openings

The bulletin board across from the URock front office has up to date listings of companies looking for interns as well as those seeking part-time and full-time employees. We try to keep the listings current so keep checking for new material.
