SAP Appeals! Urgent!

Did you recently receive correspondence from financial aid? Regulations changed related to satisfactory academic progress (SAP) which allows you to continue to receive financial aid. The new policy discontinues any probationary period. Any student found to be out of compliance will have future financial aid suspended or not awarded, including for the fall 2011 term. UMA’s Financial Aid Office is contacting students NOW. If you are affected because your SAP has dropped below an acceptable level, you have a short period of time to appeal this decision. Appeals are based on extenuating circumstances that impacted your ability to meet SAP. Pay attention to all e-mails, message center notifications, and letters sent to you. Take responsibility to be informed. Appeals are filed using this form. Print and return it directly to financial aid or to the URock office. If you are worried talk with Bev or Deb.

Academic Suspension Notification

Notification has gone out regarding academic suspension. Those who receive this notice because of low GPA will not be allowed to return in the fall, unless an appeal is granted. This is separate from the SAP appeal process. (See above.) The correct form and instructions for this appeal are available at the URock office.

Academic Advising This Summer

Both Beverly and Deborah will take some time off this summer. Beverly is on vacation now through July 22; Deborah is on vacation July 22 – August 7th. Please plan ahead.

In addition, if you cannot make an advising appointment that you have scheduled please call the office. It may be possible to switch the appointment to a phone appointment and get your questions answered, rather than have to reschedule. Summer goes fast!

Fall Preregistration Continues

You may still sign up for fall classes with no payment due at this time. This is a great way to save your seat in your favorite classes while waiting for financial aid, or tuition reimbursement, or state vouchers to take effect.

UMA Announces Convocation Theme

This year’s keynote speaker at UMA’s Convocation event will be Wonona Duke, an internationally renowned activist working on sustainable development and environmental justice. Ms. LaDuke is featured in the book, “Talking About a Revolution”. This book has been chosen by the Colloquium Committee as the work to be integrated into UMA’s curriculum this year.

Convocation will be held on the UMA campus on Friday, September 23 from 2:30 – 4:00pm.

NO Smoking Within 100 Feet

Please adhere to the policy of no smoking within 100 feet of the entrances to the Breakwater Building. Take advantage of the two new picnic tables on the waterfront and move away from the building when smoking. Thanks for your cooperation.

Be Wise & Lock Your Cars

Although URock and its surrounding areas are safe environments, there is an increase of reported property thefts in the mid-coast. Therefore, we advise that you lock your cars in the parking lot for added safety.
