Commencement 2011!!

We have posted information about Commencement 2011 including information on the local URock graduation celebration on May 7th as well as the protocol for caps and gowns, etc. at the big ceremony at the Civic Center. Remember to apply to graduate online. We need you to RSVP for the URock event May 7th so we can plan our fancy hors d’oeuvres. Grads please send digital photos to Dawn Rinehart for the slide show!

Some caps and gowns have arrived at URock. Pick them up at the front office.

Internship Panel Rescheduled

The student panel on the in’s and out’s of internships has been rescheduled to Friday, April 29th at noon at URock. Learn how to apply, what it means to have an internship and some of the ways to maximize the experience from current URock students who are enrolled in internships.

Creative Writings Published at URock!

The students in Jon Potters Creative Writing class have published a selection of short stories called, Complex Actions. Some copies are available at the front office and in the student lounge. Great work and terrific to see it in book form!

Summer and Fall Registration Open for All Campuses

Click here for registration dates across the UMaine System as well as current URock course listings for summer and fall. Thank you for seeking course information online as we do not plan to print a lot of course guides (budget savings!). This is a good time to schedule an advising appointment so you are ready to go when registration opens.

Remember that you cannot use self service in Maine Street for UMA summer courses. You must either make a payment or have financial aid posted and confirmed by staff. Fall registration is available through self-service. (See notes on financial aid below as to how to get your summer aid posted.)

URock the Vote!

Nomination papers are in and voting will take place the week of April 11 – 15. Watch your email for an electronic ballot so you can cast your vote for Student Association leadership.

Honors Program Info Meeting and Reception

On Friday, April 22nd from noon – 1:00PM, Professor Jon Schlenker will provide an overview of UMA’s Honors Program to URock students. If you are interested in joining with others who are academically motivated to provide enrichment and community service at the Rockland Center then please come to this informal gathering. Click here for more information on the URock Honors Program. The info session will include information and materials as to how new students may apply.

National “Take Back” Initiative – Unused Medication Collection

Sponsored by Rockland Police Dept and Rockland District Nursing and DEA, there will be a “take back” day on Saturday, April 30 from 10AM – 2:00PM at Rockland City Hall. This is free and confidential. Don’t flush and don’t stash!

URock Apparel

Now you can order URock apparel online with our logo and the clothes (T-shirts, sweats, etc.) will be hand delivered to you at URock.

Financial Aid Update

If you applied for financial aid through the University of Maine at Augusta, your financial aid award for fall and spring is now posted in Maine Street. You may view and accept your aid package now. Please note that your aid has been awarded based on full time enrollment (4 courses or 12 credits). If you plan to attend half or three quarters time you may change your attendance under the student enrollment hyperlink. If you plan to attend in the summer, indicate your summer plans under student enrollment and then continue to monitor Maine Street for your summer aid posting.

If you qualify for work study, contact Althea to discuss opportunities.

If you have not yet completed your FAFSA for the next academic year, it is not too late. Please go to http://www.fafsa.ed.gov to file.

Please Print Responsibly!

Although printing is still free at URock (unlike on the campuses), we do monitor printing abuses through the tracking of user logons. Local student activity fees support the cost of paper at URock so it is not appropriate for campus based students to do large print jobs in Rockland. Please learn how to economize by printing multiple Powerpoint slides to a page. Thank you for printing responsibly.
