Hi everyone,

MEGIS, in cooperation with the State Planning Office, Floodplain Management Program, is now offering the 2011 Kennebec County FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) as a web mapping service (WMS) from our data catalog (http://www.maine.gov/megis).

The WMS is only for Kennebec County at this time, as those are the first digital, GIS-ready data we have received.  The WMS shows the FIRMs in a seamless presentation, with the aerial photos removed (so you can put your own aerial layers in there).  There are some stray white pixels which we cannot remove in an automated fashion, but they are minimal.

Legal notice:  this WMS cannot be used as a definitive legal standing of a floodplain boundary, that has to come from the actual printed map available from FEMA.  For more information, contact your county office or the Maine SPO Floodplain Management Program (http://www.maine.gov/spo/flood/index.htm).
