Newsletter – March 28 | Rockland [image: University College] *Rockland <http://learn.maine.edu/rockland>*** *Newsletter – March 28* *Explore Internships – Friday, April 1st at Noon* Are you curious about how an internship experience might fit into your academic plan? Please come to a panel discussion on Friday, April 1st at noon at URock in room #403. Some URock students who are currently doing internships will talk about the enrollment process, the work experience and some do’s and don’ts. Internships are one of the best ways to build a resume so that when you graduate, you have a degree plus a strong work background. Check out the new link<http://learn.maine.edu/rockland/center-services/internships/>about internships on the URock web site. Registration for the panel event is appreciated but not necessary. *Commencement 2011 – At URock and UMA* We have posted information about Commencement 2011<http://learn.maine.edu/rockland/commencement-2011/>including the local URock graduation celebration on May 7th as well as the protocol for caps and gowns, etc. at the big ceremony. Remember to apply to graduate online <http://www.uma.edu/applicationforgraduationform.html>. *Summer and Fall Registration Open for UMA April 4th* Click here <http://learn.maine.edu/rockland/courses-and-programs/summer-fall-2011-registration-information/>for registration dates across the UMaine System as well as current URock course listings for summer and fall. Thank you for seeking course information online as we do not plan to print a lot of course guides (budget savings!). Summer and fall registration for UMA degree candidates opens Monday, April 4th and April 7th for non-degree. This is a good time to schedule an advising appointment so you are ready to go when registration opens. Please remember that you cannot use self service in Maine Street for UMA summer courses. You must either make a payment or have financial aid posted and confirmed by staff. Fall registration *is* available through self-service. (See notes on financial aid below as to how to get your summer aid posted.) *URock the Vote!* Be an active part of the URock Community. Help plan activities and create a strong learning community! The Student Association will be holding elections in April. If you wish to take out nomination papers to run for the offices of President, VP, Treasurer or Secretary, pick up the forms at the office and return by April 4th. Gather 15 student signatures to be put on the ballot. Voting will take place the week of April 11 – 15. *Thanks to all for EXPRESSING!* Thanks to the coordination of Mary Lynch of the URock Honors Program, we had a powerful Expressions Night. Poems, radio drama with great sound effects, stories, flute playing, visual art, drumming and visual kei were in the mix. URock houses a lot of talent! *URock Apparel* Now you can order URock apparel online<https://sites.google.com/site/kdkshop/urock>with our logo and the clothes (T-shirts, sweats, etc.) will be hand delivered to you at URock. *Get ready for Spirit Week, April 11 – April 15. If you wish to have your garb for Spirit Week, place your orders now!* *Recruiting URock Coordinator for Honors Program* There is an opening for leadership for the URock Honors Program<http://learn.maine.edu/rockland/courses-programs/rockland-honors-program/>beginning in the fall. If you are looking to get more involved in our student community and build your resume, think about stepping up! This position qualifies for special scholarship funds to help pay tuition. See Bev or Deb FMI. *Financial Aid Update* If you applied for financial aid through the University of Maine at Augusta, your financial aid award for fall and spring is now posted in Maine Street<https://peportal.maine.edu/psp/PAPRD89/EMPLOYEE/EMPL/h/?tab=PAPP_GUEST>. You may view and accept your aid package now. Please note that your aid has been awarded based on full time enrollment (4 courses or 12 credits). If you plan to attend half or three quarters time you may change your attendance under the student enrollment hyperlink. If you plan to attend in the summer, indicate your summer plans under student enrollment and then continue to monitor Maine Street for your summer aid posting. If you qualify for work study, contact Althea <[log in to unmask]> to discuss opportunities. If you have not yet completed your FAFSA for the next academic year, it is not too late.
