Join in Expressions Night!

Share your amazing talents with your fellow students on Friday, February 25th at 5:30PM. All types of personal expression are welcome. Read poetry, stories, spoken work, exhibit your art, perform a favorite character, reveal your inner rockster, mime, sing, or throw in a new and novel idea! Think of it as an open-mic night. To sign up to “express” at this event, email Mary Lynch at [log in to unmask].

This UROCK Expressions Night will be dedicated to the memory of  student Joshua Bowen, who thrived in the performing arts. Donations are appreciated but not necessary for the American Heart Association and/or the Make a Wish Foundation.

2011-2012 UMA General Scholarships

Scholarships are financial awards which do not have to be repaid. UMA students have an opportunity to apply for a number of scholarships as a result of funding made available by the University of Maine at Augusta, the University of Maine System, and generous donations by organizations and individuals to the UMA scholarship fund. Visit http://www.uma.edu/finaidscholarships.html for a complete list of scholarships available. The deadline is March 4, 2011.

Financial Aid

Scholarships that are based on financial eligibility require that the applicant submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the federal processor by February 15th to meet the UMA preferred filing date of March 1, 2011.

Download the General Scholarships Information and Application.

New Test Taking Policy – Bring an ID!

URock will be checking ID’s for those taking make-up tests during our proctored test times on Tuesdays at 8:00AM and Fridays at 4:00PM.

Pick Up Fall 2010 Papers and Projects

Returned papers and projects from fall classes are sitting in the main office waiting to be claimed. Please pick up your work! All uncollected work will be discarded THIS FRIDAY, February 18th.

Ready to Graduate? Apply Now!

If you plan to graduate this May, you must submit an application for graduation. If you are a UMA degree candidate, go to the graduation form online at the UMA web site for the fastest submission. We also have some hard copy forms but the online submission is recommended.

URock Writer’s Club

The URock Writer’s Club will meet Wednesday, Feb 16th at 6:00PM in room #410. Contact Joshua Wallace for more information. New folks welcome to join.

Mental Health Counseling Available Spring Term

Richard Chalmers, a graduate student in mental health counseling at USM will begin a one semester internship which includes offering individual counseling to members of the URock community. This service is free of charge. If you need support with adjusting to school, depression, anxiety, problems in relationships or would just like someone to talk to, please contact either Bev or Deb for a referral.

Snow Cancellations!  My Goodness!

It’s the time of year when we need to worry about storms and school closings. If we need to make any cancellations, there are many ways for you to get the news. The URock web site will always have the most up to date information. You can also call the office answering machine at 596-6906, check Village Soup online or TV channels 6, 8 and 13. We try to make decisions two hours before class start times. If the cancellation is during the day, please try to get your information online or through TV channels rather than call the URock office. Our phone lines get jammed up fast and cancellations are a frantic time in the office.

Maine NEW Leadership Summer Conference

Maine NEW Leadership is a six-day, residential training program, offered at no charge each June to undergraduate college women. Established in response to the reality that women are significantly under-represented in legislatures, both nationally and in Maine, NEW Leadership encourages and teaches women how to become effective leaders. Research suggests that women are less likely than men to consider themselves qualified to run for office or to be encouraged to run for office. Maine NEW Leadership provides role models and mentors who are having a positive impact on women’s political interest.

This year’s conference will be held June 2 – 7 at the University of Maine at Orono. For more information and application materials, see Bev or Deb at URock.
