Wisconsin converted the Dane County Coliseum to as close to Olympic
sized ice as was physically possible -- 97' (or perhaps 97.5'? I can't
remember). When the Kohl Center was built, it was not originally planned
for the hockey team to move there full time, so the rink was made the
same size as the Coliseum. Of course, before the Kohl Center opened, it
was decided that the hockey team would move full time, but the ice was
set at 97' wide.
