*Book Buy Back – December 16th*

The UMA bookstore will hold a Book Buy Back at URock on December 16th from
3- 6:30PM in room #414. This is a good time to convert your textbooks into
cash! Please go to this page on the UMA
Bookstore<http://www.umabookstore.com/ePOS?this_category=49&store=409&form=shared3%2fgm%2fbrowse.html&design=409>web
site to see if they are buying back your texts and how much you might
be
offered. This is a great tool!

*New Test Taking Policy – Bring an ID!*

URock will be checking ID’s for those taking make-up tests during our
proctored test times on Tuesdays at 8:00AM and Fridays at 4:00PM.

*Student Art Show a Great Success!*

On Friday, December 3rd the URock 1st Ever Student Art Show drew an
appreciative crowd of about 75 guests to view the work of students in Seth
Lester’s ART 100 – Studio Art, Emily Wolf’s ART 115 – Drawing and Dee
Peppe’s ART 109 – Digital Photography. Thanks to the URock Student
Association for hosting this event and providing great refreshments.
Everyone was clearly amazed at the caliber of student work. Check out
the University
College at Rockland Facebook
page<http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pages/University-College-at-Rockland/101812551462>for
a great slide show of images from student, Dustin Dinsmore.

*Spring Registration is Ongoing*

Registration for the spring term is open. You can self-register in Maine
Street. Check here<http://learn.maine.edu/rockland/highlights/registration-for-spring-2011-is-just-around-the-corner/>for
*all *campus registration dates. And, check
here<http://learn.maine.edu/rockland/files/2010/07/Spring-2011-UROCK-Early-In-House-Guide-1018101.pdf>for
the spring schedule at URock. Schedule an advising appointment for
help
in choosing the best courses to meet your needs. If you are unable to see an
advisor right away, look at your program checksheet and self-register in
Maine Street. Then when you meet with an advisor, you can double check your
choices.

*Advising Appointments*

Beverly and Deborah see as many students as time allows. *All appointments
are booked through the front office staff.* If you need to cancel, please
call the office as you would with any other professional appointment. We
have a good number of no shows and this is frustrating when some other
students are waiting long periods to get an appointment scheduled.

*Mental Health Counseling Available Spring Term*

Richard Chalmers, a graduate student in mental health counseling at USM will
begin a one semester internship which includes offering individual
counseling to members of the URock community. This service is free of
charge. If you need support with adjusting to school, depression, anxiety,
problems in relationships or would just like someone to talk to, please
contact either Bev or Deb for a referral. Richard is currently a graduate
student at USM, has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in psychology and has studied
art at the Rhode Island School of Design. He has worked extensively with
mens’ groups including Maine Coast Men. His background includes several
meditation retreats at the Insight Meditation Society and Morgan Bay Zendo.
Richard believes in an active, creative, problem solving approach to
counseling and is looking forward to working at URock. Richard is ready to
take referrals over the semester break so be in touch with us.

*URock Writer’s Club – Off and Running*

The URock Writer’s Club is off to a great start and the second meeting had
twice as many participants. Contact student Joshua
Wallace<[log in to unmask]>for more info.

*Snow Cancellations!*

It’s the time of year when we need to worry about storms and school
closings. If we need to make any cancellations, there are many ways for you
to get the news. The URock web site <http://www.learn.maine.edu/rockland>will
always have the most up to date information. You can also call the office
answering machine at 596-6906, check Village Soup online or TV channels 6, 8
and 13. We try to make decisions two hours before class start times. If the
cancellation is during the day, please try to get your information online or
through TV channels rather than call the URock office. Our phone lines get
jammed up fast and cancellations are a frantic time in the office.
