Farnsworth Forum Free to URock Students
Angela Miller, a
professor at the University of Washington, in St. Louis, is the primary
author of perhaps the most-utilized and acclaimed textbook on art history,
and she is appearing at the Farnsworth Forum on Monday evening,
October 25, at the Strand Theater in Rockland at 6:00PM. The event is free to all URock
students! Great opportunity!
Join the Lip Dub
Some URockers
want to make a lip dub! A lip
dub is a type of video that combines lip synching and audio dubbing
to make a music video.
We’ve got the talent and the music. If you are interested in
participating, contact Deb at [log in to unmask] and let her know you
want to be a part! Join the fun!
Prep for Flu Season – 10/19
Meet staff from
the Maine Center for Disease Control and learn about good prep for flu
season as well as vaccines and the latest info on H1N1. This info session
will be held at noon on October 19th in room #403. If you are wondering
where you can get a flu shot, go to American Lung Association at http://www.lungusa.org/lung-disease/influenza/flu-vaccine-finder/
and type in your zip code. This list includes many of the supermarket and
drug store clinics.
Guess the Candy Count!
Check out the
jar of yummies on the front office counter. Come closest to guessing the
right number of pieces of candy and win the jar! The drawing will occur on
Oct. 29.
Saturday Hours?
Some students in
ENG 317W are circulating a questionnaire about Saturday hours at URock.
Copies of the questionnaire are available at the front counter, too. Take a
minute and give your opinion.
The Student Association Meets Friday, 10/15 at noon
The URock
Student Association is a great way to get involved in the URock community
and to show leadership skills. Their next meeting will be Friday, October
15th, at noon in the lounge. Guest Joan Vargas from the Humane Society of Knox
County will share specific needs for student volunteers.
Pop! Tech Comes to URock
The world class
event of Pop! Tech will be videostreamed at URock
on Thursday and Friday (Oct 21 & 22) from 9:00AM to 4:00PM. So, pull up
a chair in room #403, enjoy some popcorn and soak up their world-changing
people, projects and ideas.
Job Notices – Check the Bulletin Board
URock is often
contacted by local employers looking to hire. Sometimes it is a strain on a
business to conduct a wide scale employee search and so they look to the
university as a reliable source of capable, talented employees. If you are
job hunting, be sure to check the bulletin board outside of Beverly’s
office for postings. We hang notices the minute we get them.
Student Discount Cards
Please pick up
your laminated student discount card in the front office. See here for a list of businesses offering discounts.
