GIS Technician Job Description: The position will assist in the development of a coastal and marine GIS for use by the Maine Department of Marine Resources and other Maine State agencies. The position will also assist in training, data creation, management, distribution, and modeling using ArcGIS. The majority of the work will be carried out at the MeDMR Fisheries Laboratory in West Boothbay Harbor. This is a contract position with no benefits. This job pays $14/hr and does not have benefits. Possible Tasks: - Data management and metadata for conversion to Citrix based software delivery Data management and metadata for creation of a Coastal Atlas. - Gather and process Species of Concern data - Eelgrass habitat modeling using UNH PTSI tool Need to know: - Basic ArcMap environment (extensions and customizing the ArcMap environment) - Editing of vector data and attributes (setting the editing environment, digitizing, basic editing operations, quality control) Raster data creation and management Data management (ArcCatalog, geodatabase essentials, SDE basics, data parsing) - Metadata creation and editing (ESRI tools) Basic cartography (map symbolization, projections, layouts) Use of Arc Toolbox Desirable skills: -Modeling and ESRI Model Builder -Basics of Topology -Python or VBA scripting Additional requirement: A valid driver's license.
