Two weeks ago, USGS
issued the official task order for the ARRA-funded portion of the "Lidar for the
Northeast" project, $1,410,550 total. This is the actual contract with the
vendor, PhotoScience, which locks in the funding and collection details.
This week USGS will issue the official task order for the rest of the project
which includes another 3000 square miles, plus certain upgrades worth roughly
$1.3M. This will cover 2,893 square miles of new lidar data for Maine, not
including the 846 square miles collected in Androscoggin County last year by
FEMA. The footprint is available here:
MEGIS has revamped
and is providing for public consumption two basemap web mapping services, one
which provides a simple basemap WMS, and a second which provides marine
data. Both will be available on the WMS page this week. Both are
available for use right now with the following URLs (reminder - these URLs will
NOT take you to a website, they are for web services which are consumed by GIS
software).
MEGIS does host a
basemap viewer which provides a web interface to use the service.
Available at http://megis.maine.gov under
'maps'.
