Hi Carrol, I have found three passages that are related to your quotation: Canto CVI has "This is grain rite Luigi in hill path this is grain rite" XCVII has "Luigi*, gobbo*, makes his communion with wheat grain in the hill paths at sunrise" And CIV has "Luigi in hill paths chews wheat at sunrise, that grain, his communion." I guess it could be linked to the idea of a "religion of nature," to Persephone and nature cycles etc. I hope this helps at least a bit. And incidentally, what the the line mean (i.e., what theme in the > poem does it echo)? I like it anyhow, but seeing some link in it would > make it more interesting. >
