A note on data to be downloaded... most imagery layers have an index
from which you can download tiles. However, we do serve certain data
via WMS which is licensed, and we cannot share the actual tiles. This
includes:

Baxter 2004 (QuickBird satellite data)
Debsconeags 2005 (Quickbird)
Low Tide Delorme 2003
SPOT satellite data
Nautical charts

In these cases, there will not be any index layer.

Subject: new orthoviewer application

MEGIS is pleased to provide a new, updated orthoviewer application. The
original orthoviewer application is to be retired within 3 weeks, likely
on February 19. The new orthoviewer includes all the imagery that is
available via WMS, and the ability to download image tiles for most
imagery layers.

The orthoviewer can be accessed from http://megis.maine.gov/maps

A few hints (which may not have yet made it into the Help system)...

Click on 'Zoom to a Town' and you'll get a pick-list of towns to zoom
to. It will zoom to the town, highlight it for a few seconds and then
draw your background. Your selection will be saved in the 'Results'
pane until you are done.

To download image tiles, expand the layer you want by clicking on the
"+" sign next to it in the "Map Contents" and turn on the "Index" layer.
You will see the tile index drawn over the imagery. Use the "Select
image for download" tool (the circle with the "i" in it) and click on a
tile you want, then click on the hyperlink returned to download it.
Images will be either SID or JP2. You currently cannot select multiple
tiles to download, it's one at a time.

Each "layer" is a separate WMS layer, so if you turn them all on at
once, you're going to be waiting a while. For best performance, only do
a few at a time.

There is an idle timeout for the application, if you are away from it
for more than 10 minutes it will cease functioning, you can 'refresh' to
get it working again in a new session.

MEGIS will keep both the "old" and the "new" orthoviewers running until
February 19. We would be pleased to hear any feedback to help improve
the new orthoviewer.

(and thanks to Bob Bistrais for whipping this together)
