WMS updates

On Sunday June 7th starting at 9AM we will be making several changes to the imagery web mapping services (WMS) offered by the Maine Office of GIS and the Maine GeoLibrary Board.  The system will be unavailable for up to one hour during that time.  The changes include:

- upgrading the version of MapServer
- reorganizing the tiling scheme for greater efficiency
- adding support for State Plane NAD83 West and East coordinate systems
- setting geographic as the default projection
- removing spaces from the WMS group name
- reducing the overview levels in some of the municipal services
- standardizing the overview levels and scales at which they switch
- adding new services to "orthos_muni.map" including:
        - Kittery (2006 leaf-off, 6" color)
        - York (2005 leaf-off, 6" color)
        - Bar Harbor (2008 leaf-off, 1' color)
        - Cumberland County (except Portland, 2006 leaf-off, 6" color)
        - Portland (2006 leaf-off, 3" color)
        - Cumberland County (2001 leaf-off, 6" color - these are the "Citipix" photos, or ORTHO_HF from the MEGIS catalog)

        - Fort Fairfield (2003 leaf-off, 6" color - these are the ORTHO_FF from the MEGIS catalog)
- adding NOAA nautical charts service to "topos.map"

We may also be able to release either the 1' or 2' GeoLibrary orthos at that time, they are very close to completion.

Also, as requested earlier, we are offering WMS now as ArcGIS layer files and Google Earth KMLs on the WMS web page.

For more information see http://www.maine.gov/geolib/wms.htm.  The WMS are a joint project of the Maine Office of GIS and Maine GeoLibrary Board.
