The Maine Office of GIS, in cooperation with the Maine GeoLibrary Board,
now provide Dept. of Marine Resources low-tide aerial orthophotos
through our OGC-compliant web mapping service (WMS). This portion of
the low-tide imagery is roughly in the Vinalhaven-MDI-Schoodic area, and
consists of half-meter color orthophotos of coastal areas in this
region, all at low tide. The dates of the flight are August 21-22 2008.

The WMS can be accessed in most GIS software at this URL (which also has
the NAIP 2007 and the 1996-1998 USGS DOQQs):

http://geolibportal.maine.gov/wms/mapserv.exe?map=c:/wms/orthos.map&

The WMS has been tested in ArcGIS, MapInfo, Google Earth, QGIS, and
gvSIG. Recall that a WMS is not a standalone web site, you have to
'consume' it in some type of GIS client.

Details about these WMS can be found on the GeoLibrary Board's web site
http://www.maine.gov/geolib.

Additionally, we have posted text-based metadata files for the 5 aerial
orthophoto services we currently provide on the web site as well (this
is a temporary location for metadata until the portal is finalized).

We are currently processing the 2001-2003-2004 GeoLibrary data for WMS,
and also re-released NAIP 2007 data (better image quality and color
balancing than the interim product you currently see). These should be
available in the next two weeks. More details coming soon.
