Subject: Open source web mapping presentation
Hi Michael - As you may or
may not be aware, I'm involved with the New England Chapter of URISA (Urban and
Regional Information Systems Association). The organization has been
pretty quiet since the last New England GIS conferencen in 2006, but we're
re-activiating. As part of that we've launched a bunch of programming for
July (with more coming in the fall), including presentations on open source web
mapping. We do to try and make our programs accessible to different parts
of New England, including at least Southern ME and with that in mind, one of
the open source web mapping presentations will be in Portsmouth, NH.
We'd appreciate it very much
if you coud publicize the event below in any way that makes sense as soon as
possible. Also, for full information on the New England Chapter, see our
web site at www.neurisa.org.
If you have any events you want publicized, we'd be happy to put them up on our
web site. Also, note that we have launched a Google Group "list
serve" and the web site includes instructions and policies around that
effort.
Thanks!

Are you interested in open
source web mapping solutions, but a little intimidated by the acronym soup and
unsure of how to proceed? This presentatation will introduce the software
tools involved and show some of what can be achieved. You will hear about
MapServer, GDAL, OGR, PostGIs and Postgres, and other products that are being
used to implement successful web mapping applications.
