ME Hockey List: I attended the ECHL All-Star game in Reading on Weds. night and Frank Doyle played a 'blinder', stopping every rapid-fire, in close shot he faced except for a tap-in. He thoroughly deserved the award because he turned the tide in favor of his side who scored 4 goals in the second period. I spoke with Frank after the game and he was told that his jersey was being sent to the Hockey Hall of Fame to be exhibited, so I doubt the game jersey will be on bid. Frank is headed back to Idaho Steelheads to resume the season and try to move up to the AHL. But let's not forget another Maine hockey alum who played a huge role. Matt Thomas, our grad-assistant for two years under Shawn and Tim, now coaches the first-place Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies in the ECHL and was directing the winning side in Wednesday's All-Star match. He told me afterward that he really enjoyed watching the talent play. Finally, my local Reading Royals' side features another of our own goal tenders, Matt Yeats, who has won five in a row since joining the team in December. Matt is also trying to move back up to the AHL. I see many of our alums from the ECHL as they come through town and will try to update the list with their exploits. I have enjoyed reading your messages. Bruce Hale, Director, Academic Support Services for Student-Athletes, UM, 1998-2003.
