Tom, John Crawford Parlin lived from 1863 to 1948. I found this information by looking up a species with the specific epithet of "parlinii" in Fernald (1950). Fernald provides the etymology of epithets, and when they are based on a person's name, he provides their birth and death year (Antennaria parlinii is on page 1461).
