The beginning of Canto XL includes the lines ³De banchis cambi tenendi / Venice 1361, / '62..shelved for a couple of centuries...² (197). Terrell says that a source for this has not been found. Is there anyone online (I don't have access to _The Barb of Time_ and related volumes at the moment) who has some idea what Pound is referring to here, or further grounding in Pound's assessment of Venetian banking? Many thanks in advance to anyone who responds! Jennifer Scappettone University of California, Berkeley
