From Joe Carr and U Maine Public Affairs ... A rally in honor of the UMaine Black Bear hockey team is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, March 26, at Memorial Union's Maine Marketplace. The UMaine band will start things off at approximately 12:20, with the team and cheerleaders scheduled to appear shortly thereafter. A program of speakers, including UMaine Executive Vice President and Provost Robert Kennedy, Coach Tim Whitehead and Black Bear players, will highlight the event. Paul Bubb, UMaine's interim athletic director, will serve as emcee. The Black Bears (24-9-5) will depart Thursday for Ann Arbor, Mich. to participate in the NCAA Midwest Regional. The Black Bears are the second seed in the four-team regional and will play the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The Saturday regional semifinal will be broadcast live on WABI-TV in Bangor and WMTW-TV in Portland. The winner of the Maine-Michigan game will advance to play the Colorado College-Wayne State winner in Sunday's 3 p.m. regional final. Sunday's game will be broadcast on New England Sports Network (NESN). Televised broadcasts of any game involving the Black Bears will be shown live on large televisions in Maine Marketplace.
