Not to condone any blows to the head, nor to condone the action of Commodore, who tends to "rough it up" a bit too often...but the likely reason that it was only called 2 minutes (other than he may not have seen it happen) is that the entire game was extremely chippy, and not focused on hockey at all! This game was over half-way through the first period, when UND went up 4-0. The period ended up 7-0...and the game 11-1. Faced with that deficit, Tech's tactics changed, and all they tried to do was see who they could rough up next! Referees let alot of stuff go...to mercifly try to keep the clock running. As it was, several players were ejected from that game. So, not that I approve of the action, or any of the "extra curricular" activities, but there was much more to this than "blind referees." Did anyone notice the punch or elbow that Cabana threw first to instagate the retaliation? It is, however, the ref's discretionary call and should have depended on what he saw at the time of the hit, not on the outcome (player on ice for 10 minutes, or whatever). --jeff partnow Jeff Partnow-- <[log in to unmask]> Fairbanks, Alaska HOCKEY-L is for discussion of college ice hockey; send information to [log in to unmask], The College Hockey Information List.
