Most teams use it because a relatively poor team with a hot goalie can knock
off a real contender. A couple of days ago, (Div III but still relevant) a
moderately good River Falls team beat a team ranked in the top 5 most of the
season and still leading the conference (Point) 3-1 despite being outplayed
and outshot 41-17. We all like upsets (when it isn't our home team, that is
:-)) and root for the "cinderella" team, but if you are going to take out a
top team, then prove you can do it 2 out of 3 times. Because realistically
we mostly want to see those top teams pitted against each other at the big
dance.

Oh, well - the sig. line says it all.
