5-12 grade library.
Whole collection not separated into any grade levels.
Books with mature content for older students (roughly grades 10-12) marked
with a small green dot on the spine label under the call number. Explained
green dot as a "harder to read" book and shared the "read one page, hold up
one finger for each word you do not know, if you reach five, you may want
to make another choice".
Students and parents - at parent nights - told that it is up to parent to
monitor their child's reading and that it is not a right the school should
take away from the parents. Also told that the parent should feel free to
return any book they do not want their child to read and librarian would
help them or their child find an alternative for that one.

Usually asked the fifth graders if their mother allowed them to read horror
stories when they first tried to check one out. Always had a few 5th or 6th
graders check out and carry around a big Stephen King book but never read
It is your guidance and knowledge of your students and community that leads
the students to books best suited for them more than putting the labels on
