Like Evelyn, I really appreciated HSLIC's support when I was a new part-time medical librarian at Inland Hospital in 1998. With their assistance I was able to convince my administration to get me a computer so my library could move from a card catalog to an automated collection and take part in the National Library of Medicine's new Grateful Med system :) I wouldn't be where I am today without this wonderful group!

In 1978 I was hired by St. Mary's General Hospital in time to meet JCAH accreditation.  Shortly thereafter I was visited by a volunteer HSLIC mentor, who spent a day teaching me how to manually fill out a 5-part paper interlibrary loan form and how to choose which libraries to send it to (remember MULS?), how to use the paper issues of Index Medicus I had on the shelves, and how libraries operated within hospitals - the stuff you don't learn in library school.  That was the start of my 40-year relationship with HSLIC, and I will be forever grateful for the practical skills and the collegiality everyone provided.  I want to say thanks to every HSLIC member I've ever worked with - it's been quite the ride!
