Thank you to everyone who sent their input on the summer attendance issue
we were having.
Here are the compiled answers:
"I chose not to do Read ME this year because of the book selections. We
did
participate last year, but patron participation was minimal, again, I
think, because of the book selections."
"We didn't do it this year because of low attendance last summer. I suspect
that had to do with book selections"
"Staff mentioned that holds on those titles were crazy last year. I didn’t
want to buy 15 copies of books that probably wouldn’t have circulated much
later"
"We really struggled with the book selections this year- they were both
quite dark for summer reading! We had about a dozen for our book
discussions, and we had about a dozen for one of the author visits. We had
a lot of folks tell us that they weren't interested in reading the book
selections and opted out of events that they would normally attend because
of that. I think going forward we might be more selective about whether we
participate in Read ME, basing it on what books are being chosen."
"We had 8 people at our discussion...It was mostly our usual book
discussion crowd with a couple new people. It is summer, so people have so
much else going on..."
"I did not find that the books drew in more participants. However, both
books generated really good discussions, no
doubt about it. "
Cheers,
Alexis
