After decades of tireless and expert-level cataloging leadership, Karen Jones will be retiring from her position as Technical Services Librarian at LPL. We are going to miss her terribly, but look forward to bringing someone equally talented on board to continue to lead the department.

The job ad is below. Please feel free to email me for a complete job description.

This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Collection Services Division and is a
member of the library's leadership and management team.

WORK ACTIVITIES: The Technical Services Librarian is responsible for the cataloging and processing of all
library materials, the physical maintenance of the library collection, and the development and maintenance of
the library materials database. This position reports to the Library Director and supervises the division's full and part-time staff and volunteers. Major duties include cataloging and classifying all adult, teen, and children's
nonfiction; interpreting community information needs and assisting with the selection of new and replacement
adult nonfiction; supervising the library's catalog, including additions, withdrawals, and changes in
bibliographic records; developing long-range division plans and budget recommendations for the division and
tracking expenditures against budgeted allocations; assisting at the Reference Desk on an as-needed basis; and
acting as the library's liaison with the Minerva consortium in matters pertaining to the statewide materials
database. As the head of the Collection Services Division, the Technical Services Librarian develops and
oversees the library's inventory and weeding procedures for the entire collection.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A Master's degree in Library and Information Science and four or more
years of related experience is strongly preferred, but equivalent combination of education and experience will
be considered. The ideal candidate would be an individual comfortable working as part of a team, but also able
to work independently with minimal supervision and strong time management and delegation skills. They
should have a thorough understanding of specialized library principles and practices including MARC 21, RDA
Standards, LCSH, and DDC, as well as the ability to keep up with new cataloging and processing standards.
Other qualities and skills desired include proficiency with library technologies, including familiarity with the
Sierra ILS; strong attention to detail and effective written and verbal communication skills; and experience
conducting reference interviews.

SCHEDULE: This is an exempt, full time position, requiring 37.5 hours weekly, and is a member of the AFSCME Professional Technical Unit (ProTech), salary range beginning at $49,842.00. Occasional evening and Saturday
work required. The Lewiston Public Library is open Mon-Thurs 10am-7pm; Friday and Saturday 10am-5pm.

Submit City of Lewiston Employment Application (https://www.lewistonmaine.gov/DocumentCenter/View/95/JobApplication-Fillable2021?bidId=), cover letter and complete resume directly to the Department
of Human Resources, City Hall 27 Pine Street Lewiston, ME 04240 or [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.

Application deadline is February 25, 2022. Only interviewed candidates will be notified.
