We have two sections where the newly purchased and new-to-us (donations) are kept - one for fiction, one for nonfiction - excluding YA and LP. When we process any type of material, we put the month/year on the corner of the barcode label and if they are newly purchased fiction, they receive a 7-day sticker, if donations they don't receive any additional stickers. We check the month/year date to know what is in "new" sections - about 4 months for fiction and 6-8 months for nonfiction. When we check things in for shelving, we have a general cart that holds everything and then special shelves for new books. Each type of new book has a label (such as fiction, nonfiction, YA and LP) which is laminated so we can change the date so we know anything before that date is no longer "new" and should go into the main stacks. The new books are stacked there for shelving to their various locations - new fiction, new nonfiction, new YA, new LP, etc. When we move titles to the main stacks, we change their location, their circulation period to 2 weeks, and remove the 7-day sticker. When books come back from patrons (read - up from quarantine), we note the month/year on the barcode and if it is no longer new, we remove the sticker and make the necessary changes in the computer.
All it takes is a quick glance while scanning the barcode to know where a book belongs.

Subject: [MELIBS-L] "New" material stickers

Hello everyone! We were wondering what "new" stickers other libraries used that 1. stick to the material and not fall off and 2. not stick so much that you need goo be gone to take it off. We've tried every type available at Demco, but none fit the bill.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!

Eve
