We have one of those and I'm confused about how it works. The platform is
on a spring/hinge so the top part by the blade dips, so you can't use much
pressure (I think that's supposed to help with thick books). And with the
book up against the backstop, the blade cuts about 1/8" above the book, so
you still don't get a nice finish.
I do like that the blade makes a clean cut rather than a zigzag tape
dispenser cut, and the platform is nice for holding the tape and measuring
how much tape you want (ish).
But maybe I'm just doing it wrong...

We use book tape with the taping system, but have been mostly using
laminate tape, since it's more forgiving if you need to reposition:
