There is a great Health Literacy program offered on November 18th by the NNLM:

Partnering for Improved Communication: A Health Literacy Program-in-a-Box
November 18, 2-2:45pm (ET)

Are you interested in health literacy? Are you unsure of what types of health literacy programs exist or what resources are available to you? This session will discuss the NNLM program Engage for Health, a community health education "program in a box" that you can offer. Engage for Health teaches community members how to effectively communicate with their health care providers. Program materials are freely available for use by libraries, community and faith based agencies, public health organizations or others who promote health literacy in their community. Available materials include presentation slides with speaker notes, a role-play exercise, pre-post evaluation tool, and marketing materials. This presentation will also emphasize the importance of public health and public library partnerships in engaging the community around the topic of health literacy.

Objectives:

  1. At the end of the session, participants will demonstrate how to locate the Engage Health Program on nnlm.gov
  2. At the end of the session, participants will list the materials included in the Engage for Health Program-in-a-Box
  3. At the end of the session, participants will describe the community partners typically involved in the implementation of Engage for Health
