Subject: Clarification on cost estimates for joining Minerva

------------------ As you hopefully know, Minerva is currently accepting
applications for new member libraries.

see application information here:
http://www.maineinfonet.org/news/2013/08/29/minerva-is-accepting-applica
tions-for-new-members/

After speaking with a few libraries seeking clarification on the
estimated costs that a library might incur if they were to join Minerva
I would like to clarify the cost for data migration services of records
from an existing ILS into Minerva which was estimated as "$9,500 or
higher". That item should also state that the cost could be much lower
than that. The estimate was based on a base charge for having III
manage the data migration into our system. Depending on a library's
ability to provide clean cataloging records in MARC format with well
documented item information, we should be able to manage migration of
that data for substantially less cost. In some cases the work may
result in little to no added charge if the data migration appears to be
very simple. (Other significant costs estimated in the background
documentation would still most likely apply, regardless of the extent of
data migration services that need outside contracting.)

Following receipt of applications from interested libraries, there will
be a series of conversations between Minerva, Maine InfoNet, and any
finalist library that will help (among other things) determine what
sorts of work might be able to be performed in-house and what would need
to be contracted out, resulting in charges being passed along to a
library.

Best Regards

-James
