For several months we have been discussing the idea of the State Library
staff holding "information sharing meetings" with librarians at various
public libraries around the state. The following dates and places have been
confirmed. We are setting a date to be at Camden Public Library and will
announce that as soon as it is settled.

Machias - March 21, 2002 (TTBA)
Rumford - April 17, 2002 (TTBA)

Gary Nichols, State Librarian; Ben Keating Director of Reader and
Information Services; Edna Comstock, E-Rate Coordinator, Electronic Services
Librarian, and more; Sylvia Norton, Maine School Technologist; Elaine
Stanley,Reference and Information Specialist ; an ARRC representative; and a
Maine Library Commission member; and your district consultant will be
present at each gathering.

The State Library staff would like to present information about our
services, goals, programs and issues and provide handouts.
After our presentations, we hope to hear about projects, issues, and
concerns from attending librarians and to respond to questions.

We are very much looking forward to meeting with you "closer to your homes"
and to learn about your concerns, priorities, etc. firsthand.
Please R.S.V.P. directly to the host library so they can have the coffee pot
on and chairs set up.

When I return from Mid-Winter ALA, I'll try to get out more information to
you. If you have questions or suggestions about how to make these visits as
helpful to you as possible, please drop me a line. Many, many thanks. (Oh
yes, I'll be on the road with the rest of the crew; wouldn't miss it! And,
if these meetings prove useful, we'll plan more!)
