The following response from UMS concerning patrons' problems logging in from
home:

If someone has a firewall at home, they need to change their security
settings to allow referring URLs so that information can pass from their
browser to the vendor's web site. There may be a particular setting for this
or a general security level
that can be adjusted.

Sometimes users will choose the highest setting thinking they are protected
the most, but that will not work. A medium or medium-low setting is fine if
it applies to the person's firewall. They will need to refer to their manual
or manufacturer's
web site on how to do this. They can also temporarily turn the firewall off
for testing purposes.

Also, Windows XP comes with a built-in firewall, so a third-party
application is not needed. This may further complicate the issue.

Windows Internet Explorer browser also has security levels that may need to
be adjusted. Go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Security -> Internet ->
Custom level....and make sure level is at medium or medium low. You do not
want a high or low setting.

Subject: Problem - remote logon to Maine Databases

Is anyone else experiencing a problem logging on to the Maine Databases from
a remote location? I have one patron who reports that she is unable to do so
after repeated efforts at different times. She gets the following message:
Authentication failed: Invalid referring URL. She reports that she uses
Roadrunner and has a firewall - I don't know if this combo might be causing
the problem. [and if so, is there a fix?]
