June 7, 2002
Dear Maine Librarian,
You are invited to attend one of the meetings listed below. These meetings
are critically important because, as you know, $2,000,000 of the $9,000,000
MSLN escrow account is available for library technology needs. In order for
State Librarian Gary Nichols to persuasively argue that libraries need this
money, we must KNOW the technology needs identified by Maine public (and
other) libraries.
Massachusetts consultant and grant writer Jon Hardie is scheduled to
facilitate these meetings as a follow-up to the "Maine School and Library
Network Needs Analysis Questions" sent to all public libraries on April 9,
2002. Compilations of these surveys will be available for attendees to
react to, delete from, elaborate upon, and prioritize at the meetings listed
below. If we are able to post the compilations on the Maine State Library
web site www.state.me.us/msl <http://www.state.me.us/msl> before the
meetings, we will let you know through ME-LIBS. All meetings will be held
from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
JULY 16, 2002 - BANGOR PUBLIC LIBRARY (NMLD)
JULY 17, 2002 - MAINE STATE LIBRARY - 3rd FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM (CMLD)
JULY 18, 2002 - KENNEBUNK PUBLIC LIBRARY (SMLD)
Please RSVP to your district consultant's office. If you have any
questions, please get in touch with either one of us. We hope to see you
the third week in July!
Sincerely,
J. Gary Nichols
