Hello All, The Maine State Library is pleased to announce the recipients of the Spring 2018 Maine Public Library Fund Grants.

Funding collected through the voluntary Maine Public Library Fund Income Tax Check-off program was awarded to 14 Maine public libraries to help develop innovative library programs and services and support professional development for library staff.

The grant projects ranged in size and scope from developing welcoming children's spaces, STEM, Maker and nutrition programming, podcast production, outdoor community movie nights, a portable digitization lab, and sensory story times to library conference participation for staff. A panel of librarians from the Maine State Library selected the projects from a group of 23 proposals submitted by Maine libraries in April.

Awardees include:
Waterboro Public Library ($5,000) to develop STEM programming for children.
Skidompha Public Library, Damariscotta ($3600) to expand podcasting production services.
Paris Public Library ($2,500) to develop monthly crafting programs.
Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library, Lovell ($2,500) to provide a Lego Library and related youth services programming.
Prince Memorial Library, Cumberland ($2,500) for a portable digitization lab project.
Dr. Shaw Memorial Library, Mt. Vernon ($2500) for mobile shelving to expand Children's Area.
McArthur Public Library, Biddeford ($1800) to establish a community movie nights program.
Brown Memorial Library, Baldwin ($1700) for Children's Room improvements.
Guilford Memorial Library ($1,300) to develop programming around STEM Discovery Kits.
Springvale Public Library ($1,000) to develop family sensory storytimes.
Cary Library, Houlton ($1,000) to set up quiet Maker spaces for teens and special needs adults.
Gardiner Public Library ($1,000) to offer monthly nutrition-related children's programming.
Pittsfield Public Library ($1,000) to fund staff attendance at the national Association of Small and Rural Libraries conference.
Patten Free Library, Bath ($1,000) to partner with the school district to expand the Books on the Bus literacy program.

The Maine Public Library Fund Income Tax Check-off allows Maine taxpayers to make voluntary contributions to support Maine public libraries on Maine Income Tax form Schedule C-P.

"The generosity of Maine taxpayers through the tax check-off has helped Maine public libraries develop transformative programming and services that responds to the needs of their communities," said Maine State Librarian James Ritter. "Many Maine libraries operate with very limited budgets and the grants from the Maine Public Library Fund have made many new things possible for these institutions and the people they serve."

The program has now funded a total of 62 projects and professional development requests since December 2016 and has supported significant growth in the Maine InfoNet library of downloadable e-books and audiobooks.
